Birthday Cards, Stampin' Up!, Techniques

Emboss Resist Technique

Hello! One of my favorite things about papercrafting is learning and using new techniques. The emboss resist technique has two parts: embossing and applying color.

Emboss Resist Boys Birthday Card

To emboss the image you first need to stamp it in Versamark Ink. Next, you apply the embossing powder (this card uses white powder). Lastly, you use the Heat Tool to apply heat until the powder melts together and becomes shiny.

The “resist” part of the emboss resist technique is usually done with watercoloring, sponging, or spritzing ink over the embossed image.  If needed, you can swipe over the embossed image to remove any ink that may have lingered on top of the embossing.

In summary: you emboss a stamped image, you apply color, and the embossing resists the color that is applied to it. Both parts of this technique are fairly simple, but when combined the results are awesome!

Supplies used on this card: Old Olive Cardstock, Pacific Point Cardstock, Tangerine Tango Cardstock, Versamark Ink, White Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, Watercolor Paper, Aqua Painters, Pacific Point Ink, Tangerine Tango Ink, Old Olive Ink, Banner Triple Punch, Amazing Birthday Stamp Set, What’s Your Type Stamp Set, Silver Sequin Trim, Glue Dots.

Birthday Cards, Congratulations Cards, Stampin' Up!, Thank You Cards

Elegant or Edgy

Hello! I have two cards for you today that couldn’t be more different from each other. Even though they are two distinct styles, I had a lot of fun creating them both. The first is serene & rustic, while the second is bold & modern. After checking out the two cards, leave me a comment below and let me know which style you prefer. I love them both because I have a blast experimenting with all sort of styles of cards. 🙂

The supplies used on this first card are the Crazy About You Stamp Set, Brick Wall Embossing Folder, Butterflies Thinlits Dies, Big Shot Machine, Banner Triple Punch, Rhinestone Basic Jewels, Sahara Sand Cardstock, Soft Sky Cardstock, Pink Pirouette Cardstock, Whisper White Cardstock, Glue Dots, Stampin’ Sponges (cut these into quarters), Crumb Cake Ink, & Sahara Sand ink. Both inks were sponged over the brick embossing to create the shabby chic look. Sentiment is stamped in Crumb Cake Ink.

2015-2017 Thick Bakers Twine Thanks Card

Close Up Thick Baker's Twine Thanks Card

The supplies used for this second card are Blackberry Bliss Cardstock, Whisper White Cardstock, Metallic Sequin Assortment, Glue Dots, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Big Shot Machine, Hello You Thinlits Dies, and 2014-2016 In Color Thick Baker’s Twine. The last item is a retired Sale-A-Bration product from earlier this year.

Even though you can’t CASE (Copy And Share Everything) this card exactly, I really wanted to share this technique because you can still replicate the wrapping and stacking of the bakers twine with bakers twine from the current Stampin’ Up! Catalog. You can check out Stampin’ Up!’s current thick bakers twine offerings on p.158-159 of the Annual Catalog, or click over to my Online Store and entering “thick bakers twine” into the search box. I find the texture of all that thick bakers twine is really eye catching.

I hope you enjoyed these two cards. If there is a product or technique you have been wondering about, please leave a comment below and I will do my best to incorporate it into a card for this blog.

Just Because Cards, Stampin' Up!

Happy Hello (PPA260)

For awhile now I’ve been following a sketch blog, Pals Paper Arts. A few days ago I finally decided to enter their weekly challenge. Above is the card sketch and below is the card I came up with based on that sketch.  If you click the blog link you can see what cards others came up with based on this same sketch. It’s fun to see how many awesome cards can be made from just one sketch.

Sketches are great because they give you a jumping off point, but you still get to be part of the creative process; choosing what colors, DSP (Designer Series Paper), sentiment, etc. you want to use to realize the sketch.

PPA260

The supplies I used for this card are Whisper White Cardstock, Watermelon Wonder Cardstock2015-2017 In Color Designer Series Paper Stack, Watermelon Wonder Ink Pad, Cherry on Top Cotton Paper Assortment, Flower Medallion PunchMetal Rimmed Pearls, Corner Rounder Punch & Mini Glue Dots. I used my Paper Snips to flag the end of the banners for the sentiments.

The dimensions for the card are: Whisper White 11″ x 4 1/4″ (scored at 5 1/2″), Watermelon Wonder 5 1/8″ x 3 7/8″, & a piece of Tip Top Taupe DSP from 2015-2017 In Color Designer Series Paper Stack 5″ x 3 3/4″.

I used the Flower Medallion punch to punch 3 flowers out of a Watermelon Wonder sheet from the Cherry on Top Cotton Paper Assortment, layered them (adhering with glue dots), and then crumpled them up to get the flower.

Punch Art, Stampin' Up!

Punch Art!

As promised. . . here are some super cute punch art cards! I CASEd (Copy and Share Everything) the designs for all four from Pinterest, but sometimes had to design my own backgrounds when I didn’t have the supplies used in the picture I was CASEing.  I will list all the punches needed for each design. If you have a question about other supplies used, please leave me a comment and I will let you know. 🙂

VW Beetle

WMVWBugPunchArtIMG_3191

I thought this little bug was so cute in Daffodil Delight, but couldn’t help imagine what it would look like in other colors. Maybe I’ll have to try some more out. 🙂 This particular card feels like a wedding card to me. I picture the bride & groom waving from the back window, off to their honeymoon!

Punches used: Extra-large Oval Punch, Large Oval Punch, Owl Builder Punch, Word Window Punch, & Modern Label Punch (retired).  The last punch was used for the tires. Leave me a comment if you have an idea for a substitute that is still available for purchase.

Hula Girl

WMHula Girl Punch ArtIMG_3192

I really love how this card came together. That hula girl is just adorable. Makes me want to go on a Hawaiian vacation!

Punches used: Large Oval Punch, 3/4″ Circle Punch, 1 1/4″ Circle Punch, 1 3/8″ Circle Punch (fringed with Fringe Scissors), Tree Builder Punch, & Itty Bitty Punch Pack.

Airplane in the Clouds

WMAirplanePunchArtCardIMG_3187

I had a lot of fun with this airplane. Since the cloud embossing folder is now retired, I had to come up with a substitute. I used the Tree Builder Punch to punch out a cloud. Then  I used the Paper Piercing Tool and Stampin’ Pierce Mat to “trace” a bunch of clouds on the cardstock. I think it turned out pretty well. 🙂

Punches used: 2″ Circle Punch, Word Window Punch, Owl Builder Punch & 1 3/4″ Circle Punch (cut into quarters).

Frog on a Lilly Pad

WMFrogPunchArtIMG_3190

Thought this little frog was so charming. He just needs a crown. 🙂 He was super easy to make too: a few ovals, circles for a lilly pad and the Decorative Dots embossing folder for the water.

Punches used: Extra-Large Oval Punch, Large Oval Punch, Tree Builder Punch, Owl Builder Punch.  The Lilly Pad and white background are from retired Starburst Circle Framelits, but you could use the Circle Collection Framelits instead.

Fun Fold Cards, Stampin' Up!

Fun Fold Cards

Hello! A week or so ago I held my first Fun Folds class. It was a blast!   Scouring Pinterest for fun fold cards was amazingly educational – there are so many kinds! The four cards featured in this post are the ones we made for the class. The first three have clickable links to supply lists & instructions.

Double Gate Fold Card – I love the little bits of striped paper peeking out above & below the polka dots.  I used the Stampin’ Trimmer, Schoolhouse Designer Series Paper (DSP), Tangerine Tango and Whisper White Cardstock, Pool Party and Garden Green ink, “Layered Letters” and “I Think You’re Great” stamp sets, and the Deco Label framelits. I also added Rhinestone Basic Jewels on the inside of the card (not visible in picture).

Step/Easel Card – You can’t see in the picture, but there is a piece of cardstock attached to the back of the card & folded over to prop the card up. This is the easel part of the card. The stamp sets I used are “Papillon Potpourri” and “Happy Birthday Everyone“. Click the title of this card to see a complete list of supplies.

Step EaselCardIMG_3196

Peekaboo Circle Card – You could jazz this one up even more by adding a scallop circle behind the sentiment piece. I would have done that, but I didn’t have a scallop circle punch when I made this card. The supplies I used are Delightful Dijon, Bermuda Bay, & Very Vanilla Cardstock; Bermuda Bay & Blackberry Bliss inks; “Bohemian Borders” & “Best Thoughts” stamp sets; Bohemian DSP; and the 3/4″, 2″, & 2 1/2” Circle Punches. The circles are raised up with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Off Center Slit Card –  I love the idea of contrasting 2 different designs of DSP on one project.  On this card I used Wisteria Wonder Cardstock (8 1/2 x 5 1/2). I scored it at 3″ & 7 1/4″. I used Typset Specialty DSP (5 1/4″ x 2 3/4″ for the larger & 5 1/4″ x 1″ for the smaller).  The sentiment is from the “Amazing Birthday” stamp set. It is stamped in Wisteria Wonder ink & punched out with the Decorative Label Punch. On the inside of the card I added a piece of 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of Very Vanilla Cardstock. I added a little bit of interest on the inside in the lower right corner by stamping the larger splattering of small dots from the “Gorgeous Grunge” stamp set.

OffCenterSlitCardIMG_3198

Just like in my last post, 3-D Fun, all of these cards can easily be customized by switching out the cardstock and DSP.  The Simply Scored tool was also a necessity in creating these cards. All of them, except for the Step/Easel Card, fit in a regular A-2 size envelope. The Step/Easel card needs at least a 5 1/4″ square envelope.

Please leave me a comment and let me know which Fun Fold card was your favorite. Be sure to “like” this post if you thought it was inspirational. 🙂

I invite you to follow my blog by email so you don’t miss a post. Coming up in just a few days: Punch Art!

3-D Projects, Stampin' Up!

3-D Fun

I am so excited to share this first blog post from my new blog! I switched blogging platforms because this WordPress blog allows me more freedom in blogging than the Stampin’ Up! blog did.  I must point out that you can now “Follow” my blog by email to get updates on new posts. How awesome is that? One more awesome thing I want to point out is that you can also check out my other social media accounts and “follow” me on those too. It’s so easy to stay completely connected. 🙂 I plan to keep exploring my options with this blog and make it even more user-friendly and fun.

To celebrate my trendy new blog 🙂 I decided to go big with the first post and share four 3-D projects with you. Three of these projects were CASEd (Copy and Share Everything) from other Stampin’ Up! demonstrators, but I had a blast re-working the instructions in a way that I felt was easier to follow.  I have attached PDFs of the instructions for the three projects that are more complex. The cool thing about these projects is that if you don’t have the cardstock or DSP (Designer Series Paper) that I used, you can just substitute it for something you do have (a.k.a. CASEing).

Gift Bag

IMG_3150

The first three projects have links to step-by-step printed instructions and supply lists. All three of these used the Simply Scored tool, a must have for 3-D projects.

The Gift Bag was made using the Stampin’ Up! Gift Bag Punch Board. I made a 7″ long gift bag with a medium size base. The beautiful, bright ribbon is the Watermelon Wonder dotted lace trim. The DSP is the 2015-2017 In Color Envelope Paper.  The CS (cardstock) is Tip Top Taupe. The cool thing about the gift bag punch board is that the directions for use are printed right on the board – you’ll never lose them!

One of my favorite things about making 3-D projects is choosing which DSP to use. It’s fun to make a few of the same 3-D project with different color cardstock and DSP and then line them all up to admire them. 🙂
